6. Area of application and use

The radio components are designed for use inside buildings. They are ideal for radio transmission in large or small apartments, detached or semi-detached houses as well as small or medium-sized offices. The Moeller RF system offers tremendous advantages for the modernisation and upgrade of existing electrical installations. In the event of use outside, e.g. for transmitting to garages or adjacent buildings, allowance must be made for possible impairment as a result of weather conditions.

6.1 How big can the system be?

Theoretically, small RF systems comprising up to approx. 60 components can be efficiently configured in Basic Mode. However, this means that each actuator must be within the communication range of its sensor so that routing is not required.

Larger systems with up to max. 200 components should be configured with the aid of software. And the software for the Moeller RF system also offers a wide variety of further functions for the components in Comfort Mode and Professional Mode.

6.2 Range of the Moeller RF systems

The range is limited by the maximum permissible transmitter power. Inside buildings, the range is approximately 30 to 50 m (typically 2 walls and one ceiling, depending on wall thickness, material and penetration path through obstacles).

The construction materials on-site, interference from electricallypowered machinery and other radio systems in the vicinity may also reduce the range. For further information and examples, see Section 8 Successful planning.

These factors should also be taken into consideration!

Caution: RF systems must not be used to control functions outside the premises. Caution: Despite the fact that it ensures reliable transmission, the Moeller RF system must not be used to control safetyrelevant functions such as EMERGENCY STOP or EMERGENCY CALL functions, as radio transmission is via a channel not provided exclusively for this purpose. This means that the possibility of interference cannot be fully ruled out.

For large and complex buildings in which continuous communication between all devices on all floors is required, Moeller offers a wide range of components for building technology. The two systems can be combined in many cases.
